“The gifts of my rock bottom
brought me to tallow”
The story of wild melts being birthed ⤵
After years of feeling deeply defeated by more bottoms than I could count, there was a simple moment of respite when everything came to a curious pause for me, and I’ll never forget it.
Short version formula: arriving to tallow looked something like this…
stress → heavy metal toxicity → liver failure → research → leaky gut → bone broth → tallow
The moment I discovered what the white stuff sitting at the top of my bone broth was, I couldn’t put it down. As a health and wellness researcher for all things gut + low toxic living related topics, it seemed like tallow just needed to be in my tool kit. After reviewing the data and then personally experimenting with it, I found myself wanting to give it to every person I knew. A non-toxic way to cleanse, nourish, heal, and give back to the skin?! And using it for clean cooking?! Without disrupting any hormones?! Sign me up.
I went for it, but for me first. After multiple years of stress + intensity with my health, I decided to follow the ping and give this a shot, because honestly, I needed a moment to just set down my computer and be creative for a breath. The original concept was to learn how make tallow skincare and then scent it with essential oils for myself and my local northern colorado community. Little did I know then that I was opening up quite the project.
I started by reaching out to the Colorado regenerative farms that I had purchased my bones from in the past for my broth.
However, after my first two batches, I realized that I felt wildly disconnected from the herbs that were hiding in the tiny essential oil bottles that I was buying from the grocery store.
(it would’ve been astronomically easier to just get over the disconnect and stick with the dang EO’s…But if you know me, you know I couldn’t turn a blind eye)
I decided then that I wanted to learn about infusions with the real herbs if I was going to really do this the most mindful way. I began connecting with the local apothecaries in town to learn about medicinal herbs — specifically with the ones native to CO as well as learning how to properly integrate these sacred botanicals into my triple-rendered tallow.
As I dove deeper and deeper, I was finding that not only would tallow be an incredible skincare / bodycare option for the high alpine states because of our dryness and lack of humidity, but that it most definately would be great for the sea levelers too!
And before I knew it, I discovered that this was far from a mini project but a future endeavor that aligned with my morals, my connection to regenerative agriculture, and my commitment to supporting myself and others in living a healthier and less toxic life.
Oh! Last thing.
When I say or write “we” — that’s actually just me.
I am a woman-owned, woman-run, small business.
And since it’s just me, things aren’t always as fast or as seamless as I wish.
I’m doing my absolute best, and sometimes my best doesn’t meet my standards.
So here I am,
trying to give myself a little grace as well as fill you in to my wild loop.
wild melts
non-toxic skincare rooted in ancient science
we are going back to the basics
we are saying goodbye to strange chemicals and toxins that do not benefit our one and only body
we are honoring the sacredness of these animals and medicinal herbs
we are re-grounding back to nature for true healing and nourishment
& we are tending from within always first; then we lather our largest organ in wild melts
it’s only the beginning
